Rwanda, the land of thousands hills, lakes and rivers, but also vast savannas. In the middle of Africa, sandwiched between Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda and Congo. But also the land of the most horrific 1994 genocide since the Second World War. In the Republic of Rwanda live about 8 million inhabitants of whom half million in the capital Kigali. One of the most sought after activities in rwanda today is the Rwanda gorilla safari. In 1994 estimated at over 2 million people displaced by political and ethnic violence. Fortunately, after Rwanda's bloody civil war from its deep valley scrawled. Many refugees have returned. The situation in the country is also at times not so good. Rwanda offers the traveler many beautiful things. Sights are the National Parks of Akagera, Birunga and Nyungwe Forest, the mountain gorillas in Parc National des Volcans, the tomb of Diane Fossey, national monuments to victims of the genocide in Gisozi in Nyamata and Ntarama, the National Museum of Rwanda Butare and the Twa pygmies. But the waterfalls Les Chutes the Ndaba. In the north facing Parc National des Volcans, also known as: Virunga Park, named after one of six rainforest-covered volcanoes and is home to mountain gorillas. The silver black mountain gorillas are probably the reason to travel to Rwanda. In Africa, two mountain gorillas sanctuaries. One in Uganda and in Rwanda. In Rwanda, the great apes live primarily in and around the volcano Sabyinyo. The mountain gorillas, sometimes three times as big as an adult, unfortunately, are threatened with extinction. There are now only about 674 copies worldwide. After U.S. biologist Diane Fossey was able to draw international attention on mountain gorillas in Rwanda, it went better with every year the population. She has lived here 18 years, until she was murdered. With the genocide in 1994, in Rwanda came to an abrupt end to the growing population. The genocide hundreds of thousands fled towards the border with neighboring Congo. And hence to the habitat of the gorillas. A visit to the gorillas is therefore bound by strict rules. They should not suffer the visit. In Rwanda, currently four groups of gorillas visiting. Each group are admitted daily 8 visitors (32 people in total per day). To visit the gorillas is a Gorilla Permit required. The permit costs about U.S. $ 500. The fee is used to gorillas in the park to protect and guard. Along the border with Tanzania is the Akagera National Park, named after the Akagera River, which meanders through the park. According to Rwandans the source of the Nile. Here live elephants, zebras and impala, as well as lions, leopards and hyenas. In the lakes and rivers, large groups of hippos and crocodiles live. Lake Kivu is located in western Rwanda on the border with the Congo. The beautiful lake with its many peninsulas is ideal for swimming, sunbathing and enjoying the view. The Nyungwe National Park, located in the southwest, is a beautiful tropical mountain rainforest where over 100 species of orchids occur. Here live several species of monkeys and over 275 species of birds. The park is easily accessible and there are many well maintained hiking trails. Kigali is located in the center of the country. It is a small but beautiful city. The traces of the civil war are still visible. Just south of the city lies the genocide memorial in Nyamata and Ntarama. Butare is the national museum. Less than 5 minutes walk from the starting point for the gorilla trekking, lies the small Buhoma Lodge. Eight comfortable cottages offer stunning views of the dense rainforest. The cottages are spacious and equipped with en-suite bathroom with bath or shower and toilet. Guests of the lodge are built on piles together in the lounge where you can find the bar and dining room are located. During the cool evenings, lit a campfire. In the morning you are woken with a steaming cup of coffee and the sounds of the rainforest. During your stay you will get delicious food presented where local influences are clearly visible. Sustainability is paramount in the lodge, if sunlight provides enough energy to charge your batteries.

A number of animals have slowly but surely become extinct among different parks in Uganda. Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the parks that lost its species. This park used to be home to the unusually beautiful Oryx but these animals have not been seen since the mid-1990s. Uganda Wildlife Authority is now making plans to re-introduce Oryx in Kidepo, and if everything goes according to plan, the exercise will be complete by mid this year 2010. masai mara tour

According to Dr. Patrick Atimnedi the UWA veterinary co-coordinator, ten Oryx will be translocated and these will be held in a boma/fence for security and breeding purposes before finally being released into the wild.

In the boma, the Oryx will be examined and treated for any possible diseases that they may have come with. Re-introduction of the Oryx is in line with the planned strategies for strengthening natural resources management systems under the 2007-2012 Strategic Plan. One of the strategies provides for the implementation of  kenya safari guide ecosystem and species rehabilitation programs through the successful reintroduction of at least two key wildlife species in the protected areas where they previously existed.bwindi gorilla tours

The Oryx will be translocated from Halla Park in Kenya, using a chartered plane.gorilla trekking

Acocording to Atimned, The re-introduction is aimed at establishing a viable breeding population and also enhance revenue generation through improved tourism visitation to the park. THE Norwegian Private Forest Growers (NORSKOG) has signed a partnership with the Uganda Timber Growers Association (UTGA) to support commercial timber growing with the aim of protecting forests.

According to Nabanyumya, the association’s objective is to make quality products that are acceptable on the international market.

He said the association supplied improved seedlings to its members and lobbied for information, experience on tree growing, and advocacy for better land tenure security.

During the function, Norwegian ambassador Bjorg Leite, said Uganda, being part of the global warming regions, needed to encourage more timber growers to protect forests.
“People can use this project to earn some money,” she added.Shoebill safari tours

Such projects are very important for Uganda given the significance of the tourism industry to the economy.

Leite lamented that more than half of Uganda’s forests had been cleared thus affecting climate, tourism and wildlife.
